Cassette A Side B
The tape is
part of the Freerk Kamma collection. It is a cassette Sony HF90 in the same
brand box. On the A side is a copy of Tape 1 A and Tape 1 B of the Oegstgeest Freek
Kamma collection. It are recordings from Biak, Genjem, Tobati, Vanimo and Radja
Ampat. From Biak and its wider influence area are the styles Randan, Munabai
and Kajob. Most songs are with tifa accompaniment but also a wood block, arrow
and bow as a percussion instrument are used. At 14’30 we hear Freerk Kamma have
a short interview in Bahasa about the Guay, at 28’04 announcement of a song in
Biak language from the Radja Ampat islands Randan, 31’14 announcement of music
from the Humboldt Bay, 33’56 announcement of Kayob Munabai. On side B is a copy
of Tape 2 A and 2 B with recordings from the Joka Choir, songs in Biak style for
the occasion of Kamma’s goodbye in Kota Radja, Hollandia and some more choir
songs. It starts with Dari ombak besar, it could be of another recording but
the following are live recordings of the Joka choir. There is some distortion
and it ends with a speech in Bahasa, at 20’45 the songs with tifa in Biak style
start, 27’07 choir songs. Language Bahasa and local Papua languages.
